Mike’s martial arts journey officially began in 2006 when he joined Kannapolis A.L. Browns wrestling team. He obtained all conference status as well as a most improved wrestler, under Jerome Davis, and Brian Ceresa. Following his semi-successful two year wrestling career, Mike’s journey led him to Joe Hurst Jiu-Jitsu in Concord, North Carolina. In 2008 he entered his first Jiujitsu tournament, and he competed in several local tournaments until finally making his official MMA debut in 2010 with Fight Lab Promotions. He obtained two amateur titles before the end of that year, one with Scrap Live at 155 pounds as well as Fight Labs 145 pound title. Mike continued to training Brazilian Jiujitsu during his free time until 2014 where he returned to North Carolina and back to the BJJ and Mixed Martial Art competition scene winning a few more local tournaments, fights, while coaching under Shawn Burton. Mike was awarded his black belt in 2020 under Rubao Carioca. Mike plans to continue competing whenever possible under the ZR Team North Carolina flag while maintaining his position as a full time coach and manager here at Honest Grappling Co.
