Before you come
Create your account through the signup page. No pressure to join on day one.
Choose a fundamentals class on the live schedule. Gi or No-Gi both work for a first visit.
Arrive 10 to 15 minutes before class so you can meet the coach, change, and get settled.
◆Trim your fingernails and toenails before class
◆Wear clean training clothes every session
◆Never wear shoes on the mat, and never walk barefoot off it
◆Stay home if you are sick or have a skin issue
On the mat
Movement drills that build the hip escapes, rolls, and body control you will use for the rest of class.
This depends on the coach. Mike Powell teaches through games and constraints. Mitch Alley shows a technique and breaks down the details.
Mitch's classes are drill focused, so you repeat the technique with a partner. Mike's classes put you in the game or the constraint he set. Either way, a coach walks the room.
Positional sparring and rolling against resistance. Tell the coach it is your first class and they will match you with the right partner.
Which class?
Our Gi and No-Gi fundamentals classes are built for new students and cover the core positions, escapes, and submissions every grappler needs. Kids should start in a beginner kids class.
Come out, meet the guys and gals, get a feel for the room. If you decide to join the team, we will go from there.
